About Us

Mesa Custom Furnishings was founded by John McDonald in a friend's garage in Los Angeles in 2002. Located today in a two-thousand-square-foot shop in Duarte, California (outside Pasadena), the company specializes in fine handcrafted furniture and cabinetry with influences spanning the 20th Century: Arts and Crafts, Shaker, Asian, Mid-Century, Contemporary.

From tables and dressers, to armoires, credenzas, bookcases, kitchens and bathrooms, we at Mesa Custom Furnishings feel quality materials make quality furniture. The finest sheetgoods and hand-picked lumber are essential. All of our made-to-order pieces incorporate some form of traditional woodworking joinery such as dovetails, mortise and tenons, or lap-joints, sometimes a bit of each. Hand-rubbed oil/urethane finishes for furniture and sprayed lacquer for casegoods come standard. In the end, each piece is built to suit the client's specific need in a seemless blend of beauty, strength and function.

Enjoy the furniture. We enjoy making it.

Press

La.apartmenttherapy.com is the West Coast version of a great new website that's jam-packed with all sorts of helpful information regarding home furnishings, the latest trends, design questions, and how and where to buy everything. To read what the site had to say about us, please click here.

Commissioning A Piece

We can either design an original piece for you, or work from sketches, photos or blueprints that you provide.

Once a price is determined, half the amount is due upon signing the contract, the balance due at delivery. For large jobs, there is a design fee only if the potential client decides not to move forward after the final plans are drawn up.

The lead-time on most jobs is 6-8 weeks.
